Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email

Daily Virus Threat Level

We track the daily progress of Viruses entering the Network Perimeter.

Red - Massive viral outbreak and or related to SPAM, expect problems. Clocking Viruses at 5% or greater.

Orange - Above Normal activity. Possible problems. 1% Virus rate.

Green - Normal Activity. Nominal 0.1% Viral rate.

Today's Level is:
                        Orange

Special Note on email Attachments:
Be specific in naming your attachment file, words such as "document", "application", "information", "readme" and other generic descriptors commonly used as part of attachment filenames are increasingly stripped at company and ISP email gateways. IAC performs some secondary virus attachment stripping. Viruses sent as attachments have reached unprecedented levels of personalization and sophistication.

Checking and Removal of Viruses:
Download a frequently updated, free, easy to use and fast to download virus checking program called
NAI Stinger.   If Stinger reports but fails to clean out a Virus (certain Netsky variants) please visit
Sophos Disinfection for a removal utility for a specific virus. If your particular virus variant is newer than any listed, try the latest one that is offered.

The above utilities do have configuration screens. It is worthwhile to take a second to look at these. These settings are generally OK to use "out of the box" but can be set to be more inclusive (all files) and the actions taken have differing degrees of severity (report only, clean, delete) that you might wish to customize.

AdAware from LavasoftUSA is a 2.6 MB download Spyware removal program with Auto-Update feature that is for personal computer users. Download AdAware Version 6 at: www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download

One quick way to check for spyware is to press Control/Alt/Delete, Select Task Manager and Processes. If the list is very long and you see suspicious looking entries, you probably have one or more spyware programs on your system.
